Artist Statement
My art making life began some forty years ago with the first two decades focused on education and exploration. During those years and overlapping into the next two decades, I spent preparing whole series in subjects, processes and materials. In that same time period I marketed my work in juried shows, gallery associations, enjoying recognition and moderate sales.
In the beginning of 2011, I have been following my artistic pleasure in creating new visions with familiar materials and returning to old passions. Several new pieces are examples of renewing my connections to earlier series such as "Oasis", "Sacred Vessels", "Norse Mythology" and "Journey". Adding to this mix are my interpretations of our common human experience of memory and dreams.
The direction of my work comes from many sources and represents my ongoing visual journey into seeking and finding the sacred in my life and my art. Mixed media and printmaking are important ways for me to express. I have challenged myself to create art by combining unfamiliar media as a way of discovering the beginner's mind. My inspiration is grounded in poetry, meditation and music. This has been a lifetime of rich lessons and I have gifted myself this decade with even more time in the studio at the humble place of my work table and easel.
